Natural-Looking Beauty is Within Reach
Your smile affects your self-image and can greatly influence how you interact with others. If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your smile, this can have emotional and physical repercussions. For example, a gummy smile can impact both the aesthetics and the oral function of your mouth. Our periodontist Dr. Marc Christian Kay offers smile makeovers and BOTOX® in Manhattan, NY to patients seeking to enhance their overall facial aesthetics with cosmetic dentistry. During your consultation, Dr. Kay will perform an examination and take digital X-rays to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy, while also studying the curves, angles, contours and proportions of your facial features. If he detects decay or gum disease, this will need to be treated before you receive any cosmetic dentistry services. Coupled with artistic skills, advanced technology enables Implant Dental Works’ Dr. Kay to deliver beautiful flawless smiles and facial aesthetics that enhance your pearly whites, boost your confidence, and in many instances, improve your functional dentition.
Customized Cosmetic Dental Services
Smile enhancement can have a dramatic effect on your overall appearance. While full mouth dental implants are a transformative treatment, even the smallest step can improve your overall smile aesthetics, while simultaneously boosting your confidence and self-esteem. Smile makeover services range from basic color correction to the replacement of missing teeth—as well as everything in between!
BOTOX is the trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified protein. When BOTOX is injected into the facial muscles, it blocks transmitters between the motor nerves that innervate the muscle, without imparting a loss of sensory feeling. Although BOTOX is often still thought of as a cosmetic treatment used by dermatologists to reduce lines and wrinkles on the face, its use in dentistry has expanded in recent years. The art and science of soft tissue aesthetics is an ever-evolving field of dentistry, particularly in periodontology, as evidenced by the continuous development of new surgical and nonsurgical treatment modalities. Today, BOTOX and dermal fillers are used to treat functional and aesthetic dental conditions, as well as their consequences. But you shouldn’t get BOTOX therapy just anywhere. It’s important to seek treatment from a clinician with appropriate, verifiable training and experience, such as Dr. Kay.
Excessive Gum Tissue
Your smile is an essential nonverbal method of communication, and it involves interaction between your teeth, lips and gums. When an excessive amount of gum tissue (known as gingiva) is visible while smiling, this is commonly referred to as a “gummy smile.” Not only is a gummy smile considered unattractive by most, but more importantly, excess gum tissue may also increase the risk of gum inflammation and gum disease. Studies have shown that BOTOX is a minimally invasive, effective option for the correction of gummy smiles caused by hyperactive upper lip elevator muscles. It’s considered a proven adjunct treatment to enhance aesthetics and improve patient satisfaction when surgery alone is inadequate or can’t be tolerated. During this procedure, Dr. Kay injects BOTOX into the hyperactive elevator muscles, thereby preventing the upper lip from being pulled too far up when you smile. After treatment, you should avoid lying down, exercising or massaging the injection site for at least four hours. You’ll return to our office two weeks later so that Dr. Kay can assess the effectiveness of the treatment. It takes about 5–10 days to see the results of BOTOX, but these spirit-lifting results can generally last four to eight months! Now, that’s something to smile about!
Soft Tissue Fillers
Aging can cause wrinkles around the lips, thereby diminishing their smoothness and fullness. The prettiest pearly whites can’t make up a whole smile if your lips are too thin. BOTOX is an effective method for reducing wrinkles around your eyes, forehead, cheeks and lips. It’s also useful for correcting drooping corners of the mouth caused by hyperactivity of the triangular-shaped muscles that extend down to the chin from the corners of your mouth. Lastly, a procedure in which BOTOX is injected into the upper lip (known as the BOTOX “lip flip”) relaxes the muscles around your lips and causes them to curl up, making them look fuller.
